First-generation Camaro fans will be pleased to see this from MotoeXotica Classic Cars, a genuine 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z-28/RS! This example was produced in General Motors’ Los Angeles, California factory during the first week of November 1968. Nineteen sixty-nine was the final model year for first-generation Camaros. This Z28 sold new on January 1st 1969 at Connell Chevrolet, Costa Mesa California and was a California car for decades. The previous owner has owned this Camaro for the past 13 years and has preserved the Z's numbers matching 302 engine, matching Muncie M20, matching rear 12 bolt 3.73 posi and even down to the matching original Hurst shifter!

Dressed in factory correct Hugger Orange (code 72) and twin white Z/28 rally stripes (code W), the car’s paint and trim are in overall very good order. Its bodywork is straight and solid, includes a rear spoiler, the engine bay is very tidy and the car’s chrome bumpers are in very good order.

This F-body rolls on BFGoodrich T/A radials, size 245/60R14 in front and 245/60R15 in back. Each tire is wrapped around a Rally wheel. The tires and wheels are all in very good order.

Under that hood is Chevrolet’s number matching 302 CID Turbo-Fire V-8 (engine suffix code DZ #19L507737). In 1969, eight percent of Camaros were ordered with RPO Z28. It was designed 302-cubic-inch engine for SCCA Trans Am competition. The 302 was created by combining the 327’s engine block casting (4.00-inch bore) with the 283’s crankshaft (3.00-inch stroke). This engine was built for competition and featured plenty of race-car kit, including an 11:1 compression ratio; four bolt main caps; a solid-lifter camshaft and solid valve lifters; high-rise intake manifold topped with an 800 CFM Holley 4053 four-barrel carburetor; high-capacity oil pump and baffled oil pan. It exhaled through a 2.25-inch, dual exhaust system. The engine was finished with a chrome-plated air cleaner, rocker covers, filler tube, and cap. The 302 shared the finned, cast aluminum valve covers with the LT-1 350 Corvette engine. Conservatively rated at 290 horsepower (SAE gross) at 5800 rpm and 290 lbs·ft at 4800, actual output was around 376 horsepower! 

Backing up this engine is a numbers matching Muncie M20, four-speed manual transmission #P9R16 with a numbers matching 12-bolt rear axle and a 3.73:1 rear end #BU1101G. Driver convenience features include power disc/drum brakes and tilt steering column

Inside, the car’s black interior (code 712) is in overall very good order and is a correct early no console Z28. The Strato-Bucket front seats and rear bench seats look great while the matching carpet is in great order. The black headliner is in great shape while the two-spoke factory steering wheel with woodgrain insert is in great shape. The instrument panel, with corresponding woodgrain accents, is in very good order, as are the inner door panels. An AutoMeter 10,000 RPM tachometer along with Stewart Warner oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges are mounted beneath the dash. The fuel gauge and the wipers are inoperable. Completing the interior is a date code correct Hurst shifter.

The 1969 Camaro carried over the previous year's drivetrain and major mechanical components, but all-new sheet metal, except the hood and trunk lid, gave the car a substantially sportier look. The grille was redesigned with a heavy “V” can’t and deeply inset headlights. New door skins, rear quarter panels, and rear valance panel also gave the car a much lower, wider, more aggressive look. This styling would serve for the 1969 model year only. Collectors often debate the merits of smooth, rounded lines of 1967 and 1968 model versus the heavily creased and sportier looks of the 1969.

To increase competitiveness in the SCCA Trans-Am racing series, optional four-wheel disc brakes with four-piston calipers were made available during the year, under RPO JL8. This system used components from the Corvette and made for a major improvement (except when sport striping or Z28 Special Performance Package is specified), simulated rear fender louvers, front and rear wheel opening moldings, black body sill, RS emblems on grille, steering wheel and rear panel, Rally Sport front fender nameplates, bright accented taillights, back-up lights below rear bumper; also includes bright roof drip moldings on Sport Coupe, 37,773 built. This option could be added to any other option (i.e., SS or Z/28), making the model an RS/SS or a RS/Z28.

The 1969 model year was exceptionally long, extending into November 1969, due to manufacturing problem that delayed the introduction of the second-generation model planned for 1970. It is a popular myth that late ‘69 Camaros were sold as 1970 models (due to GM publicity pictures of the '69 Camaro labeled as a 1970), but they were all assigned 1969 VIN codes.

Competition to this Camaro in 1969 included AMC’s Javelin SST and AMX, Ford’s Mustang Mach 1, Mercury’s Cougar Eliminator, Plymouth’s Barracuda Road Runner and Pontiac’s Firebird Trans Am.

Terms of Auction & Sale

  • The vehicle is offered with a right to a personal inspection by any bidder or agent of any bidder. The Vehicle is being sold by a Licensed State of Missouri Dealer (Motoexotica Classic Cars).
  • Any Missouri resident must pay local MO sales tax and licensing fees to the Missouri Department of Revenue. All others will do so in their home state.
  • All used vehicles should be assumed to have some degree of wear. (No vehicle is perfect to everyone.) Each vehicle has its strengths, shortcomings, styles and tendencies.  Therefore, despite our best efforts to verify a vehicle’s mechanical condition, we are not able to warranty a manufacturer’s workmanship or previous owner’s diligence in care. It is for this reason that all vehicles are sold “AS IS”. We have described the above mentioned vehicle to the best of our ability. However, with all pre-owned automobiles, the condition is subjective. Please be advised that no oral or written statements concerning any vehicle constitutes a representation or warranty of the condition of the said vehicle.
  • The vehicle is available for inspection prior to bidding. If you are the high bidder and unable to inspect said vehicle before auction close, you or an agent will have seven(7) days to inspect said vehicle after the close of auction. We strongly encourage a physical inspection to avoid any misunderstandings or representations.
  • Bidders with less than 10 feedbacks MUST email us before bidding showing their intent to purchase the vehicle. Due to increasing non-paying bidders, we reserve the right to cancel your bid if you do not have more then 10 feedbacks. WE WILL NOT TOLERATE BID INTERFERENCE!
  • All disputes arising out of or resulting from this sale shall be finally determined by binding arbitration in St. Louis, Missouri in accordance with the commercial rules of arbitration of the American Arbitration Association. The arbitration shall be carried out by one or more arbitrators in accordance with said rules. Any award shall be enforceable in any court of competent jurisdiction in the same manner as judgments. This agreement to arbitrate shall survive the sale of the automobile described herein. Buyer and Seller hereby agree that Missouri law shall control for all purposes under this Bill of Sale. Buyer and Seller hereby consent to the personal jurisdiction of the state and federal courts of Missouri to specifically enforce the agreement to arbitrate and to enter judgment of and enforce the award of the arbitrator.

Payment must be made by Cashiers Check, Money Orders or Bank Wire Transfers payable in US Dollars.

  • A Refundable deposit in the amount of $500.00 must be received within Twenty-Four (24) hours of the auctions close either by Master Card, Visa or PayPal. The buyer has seven (7) days from close of auction to inspect the vehicle. If the vehicle is not to your liking within this seven day inspection period then your deposit will be refunded 100%. If an inspection or decision takes longer then seven days and you find the vehicle not to your liking, your deposit will be forfeited and the car will be relisted for sale.
  • Final payment must be received within ten (10) days of the auction close. The refundable deposit only applies if you or an agent inspect said vehicle in St. Louis and find it not to your liking. MotoeXotica will not be responsible for buyers remorse or problems found to said vehicle once they have left our property. Most of the cars we deal with are vintage and will need TLC and some degree of attention eventually. These are not new vehicles and should not be treated as such.
  • Once full payment has been received, Seller will email a copy of clear title, Bill of Sale, buyers guide and additional DMV forms to the Buyer to sign and return via Docusign. The forms must be returned to the Seller prior to the shipment of said vehicle upon receipt of signed documents. Original paperwork will be sent to Buyer via USPS Priority Mail. If paid by company or personal check, original dues will be held seven (7) to ten (10) business days. Transportation will commence only after final payment and signed documentation are received.
  • INDUSTRY UNIQUE RETURN POLICY: If for any reason you receive your vehicle and have buyer’s remorse, are not happy with the vehicle or just don’t want it for any reason we will purchase the car back from you. We must be notified in writing of your decision to return the vehicle within seven (7) days of your receipt of said vehicle. The vehicle may not have more than 75 additional miles on the odometer from the time it left our possession and be returned in the same condition that it left. You WILL be responsible for a restocking fee that will equal 20% of the purchase price of the vehicle, no exceptions. You will also be responsible for shipping the vehicle back to our shop at your expense.
