Owner’s Description
“If you are looking for a great pre-war car to drive and enjoy without having to sort through issues, this is the car you should own. In 1941 Buick broke all sales records thanks to new bodies and the adoption of an optional dual-carburetor setup on its Fireball OHV inline-eight. This 1941 Buick Special Series 40 Touring Sedan is a highly original example, and one of Model 41 four-door touring sedans produced that year. The Special retains its original paint, most of its original interior, and its original twin-carburetor. I have owned the car for 18 years.
The Special is powered by Buick's 248 OVH inline-eight. This engine is optioned by the factory with dual-downdraft carburetors. With a compression ratio of 6.15:1, the dual-carburetor version of the Fireball engine was rated by the manufacturer at 125 horsepower when new, with 210 lb-ft of torque. The engine and carburation of the Buick are original, and I believe the engine may have been rebuilt. Electronic ignition was added several years ago. The engine starts immediately. There are no issues with the three-speed manual transmission. A recently installed 6 volt Optima battery is included.
The black paint on the Special is original, with some touch-ups performed over time. There is one dent near one of the headlamps. The body seals are in good condition. All chrome is in very good condition. All glass is clear. All lighting and electrical components are in proper working order. The underside is clean, with a new stainless-steel exhaust pipe and recently upgraded gas tank.
The tan cloth upholstery is in very good condition. The carpet predates my ownership and is nice. The headliner is free of sags and has functional dome lighting. The elaborately decorated steel dashboard presents strongly and is missing no trim components. All instrumentation, including the factory AM radio, works. The heater is functional.
The Buick is an enjoyable driving experience with well-balanced carburetors. Many chassis components were replaced several years ago. The brakes received a new master cylinder and wheel cylinders in 2023. The 6.50-16 Firestone Deluxe Champion wide-whitewall tires are approximately 9 years old, with new tubes in 2023.
This vehicle has a clean title. Maintenance records provided at sale.”
