Description
This
1970 Dodge Dart Swinger is a professionally built, award-winning drag car with
an extensive performance build and fewer than 15 miles driven since completion.
Finished in July 2025, the car is painted in Mopar Go Green with a black
rainbow flake hood. The front and rear bumpers are finished in matching black
rainbow flake, complemented by a new grille and new LED headlights. The car has
won multiple awards at car shows and was selected among the Top 10 cars at the
2025 Ocean City Endless Summer Cruise.
At
the heart of this Dart is a 440ci Mopar V8 stroked to 543ci, featuring a
4.500-inch stroke and 7.100-inch H-beam rods. The engine is equipped with 75cc
Edelbrock Max Wedge cylinder heads, custom Ross dome pistons, and a
custom-ground COMP Cams camshaft with solid roller lifters. Cam lift is
.744-inch intake and .721-inch exhaust. Custom-cut and balanced pushrods work
with Harland Sharp roller rocker arms, while an Edelbrock Super Victor intake
feeds a Holley 1150 Dominator carburetor. Additional engine equipment includes
a COMP Cams double-roller timing chain, Milodon high-volume external oil pump, Milodon
7-quart oil pan, Holley Black fuel pump, and MSD 6L ignition box, distributor,
and Blaster coil. The oil pan, water pump, intake, valve covers, and exhaust
headers are Jet-Hot coated. The engine is built with a reported 14.51:1
compression ratio and is set up for high-performance use.
Power
is sent through a professionally built 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission
featuring a stainless-steel drum, Hemi black bands and clutches, and a Bulldog
4,200-rpm custom-built stall converter. A custom-cut and balanced driveshaft
transfers power to the 8¾-inch rear end. The car comes with two rear-end
setups: the currently installed 4.11 Moser unit with a spool and a spare 4.57
unit with a positive-traction differential. Moser axles and a Moser third
member complete the rear-end assembly.
The
chassis has been extensively upgraded for drag racing, including new frame
connectors, a 12-point roll cage, double driveshaft loops, and pre-loaded
chassis work. A new CalTracs suspension system works with mono-leaf springs and
a 3-inch relocation kit, along with front and rear drag shocks. The front
suspension has been rebuilt with tubular control arms. Stopping power comes
from disc brakes at all four corners.
The
Dart rides on 15x10 JEGS Spider wheels in the rear with 275 Hoosier drag
radials and 15x4 JEGS Spider wheels up front. The front end and deck lid are
fiberglass, and the battery has been relocated to the trunk. A 10-gallon fuel
cell supplies fuel through a new aluminum fuel line to the carburetor.
Inside,
the car features new door panels, new carpet, and a new dash panel, with a new
headliner included in the box. A Lightening Rod shifter adds to the
period-correct muscle-car character while the roll cage reinforces the
purpose-built drag-racing setup.
This
Dart Swinger combines serious Mopar performance with a striking show-car
presentation. With its 543ci big-block, professionally built drivetrain,
extensive chassis work, fresh 2025 paint, and award-winning history, it is a
purpose-built drag car that is equally at home at the track or on the show
field. All of the work described is new and the car has been driven less than
15 miles since completion.
