Engine & Performance

Under the hood is a Chevrolet 454 big-block V8 bored to 496 cubic inches, built for serious street performance. The engine features a BDS 8/71 blower and factory 427 aluminum “Snowflake” heads. The build also includes a 4-bolt 454 big-block engine block, 427 steel crankshaft, Eagle connecting rods, forged pistons, performance camshaft, performance lifters and pushrods, roller rockers, and reworked Snowflake aluminum heads with upgraded valves.

Fuel delivery is handled by dual 500 CFM carburetors, while an MSD ignition system provides the ignition control. The engine is finished with Jardine Zoomie headers and a fender-exit exhaust system. According to the owner's notes, the engine is essentially new and has approximately 20 miles on the build.

Transmission & Drivetrain

Power is sent through a Turbo 400 automatic transmission that has been reworked for performance and equipped with a reverse valve body. The transmission was built by Mike's Transmissions and is backed by a Currie 9-inch rear end with 4.11:1 positraction gears.

The truck also features a Flaming River steering box and steering column, providing a fully customized steering system to complement the custom chassis.

Chassis, Suspension & Brakes

The Thames features a custom-built chassis with extensive fabrication and suspension work. The build notes indicate that the chassis was constructed specifically for the vehicle's platform. Suspension components include Aldan coil-over shocks, while braking is handled by Wilwood brakes.

The combination of the custom chassis, coil-over suspension, Wilwood braking system, and Flaming River steering components gives this Thames a purpose-built hot-rod configuration.

Exterior

The truck has been extensively customized while retaining the distinctive styling of the 1949 Ford Anglia Thames Panel Truck. The exterior features a striking copper/Malibu Sunset Metallic-style finish, fresh paint, and an aggressive custom hot-rod stance.

A custom one-piece power-operated front hood is fitted to the truck and operates using a GlideForce system. The vehicle also features fender-exit exhaust and extensive custom body and chassis work. According to the build notes, this Thames has been featured in two magazines.

Interior

Inside, the truck features a custom black vinyl interior with Procar bucket seats and a B&M shifter. The dashboard is equipped with Stewart-Warner gauges, while entertainment is provided by a Custom Autosound AM/FM stereo with CD changer and remote control.

The electrical system incorporates Ron Francis wiring and additional custom electrical work throughout the vehicle.

Cooling

Engine cooling is handled by a Walker radiator, complementing the extensive performance modifications throughout the engine compartment.

Owner's Notes

This 1949 Ford Anglia Thames Panel Truck is a garage-kept, extensively customized hot rod featuring a freshly built 496-cubic-inch big-block Chevrolet V8, BDS 8/71 blower, Snowflake aluminum heads, dual carburetors, and a performance-built Turbo 400 transmission.

The Currie 9-inch rear end with 4.11 posi gears, Wilwood brakes, Aldan coil-over suspension, Flaming River steering components, and custom chassis make this much more than a cosmetic restoration. The combination of the compact Thames body and massive blown big-block gives this truck an unmistakable hot-rod character.

The engine reportedly has only approximately 20 miles since the build, and the truck has been garage kept. Finished in a beautiful copper color with a black custom interior, power-operated hood, fender-exit exhaust, and extensive performance upgrades, this is a highly distinctive one-off street rod.

A serious custom build with an impressive drivetrain, extensive fabrication, and a fresh performance engine, ready for its next owner to enjoy.
