Owners Description

I picked up this ’55 Ford panel over 40 years ago out in Reno, Nevada, and it’s been part of my life ever since. The story on it is pretty cool—it started out with Ford, then went over to Mormon Harrington, who’s known for doing 4x4 conversions back in the day. They put the four-wheel-drive setup under it and sent it off to the Nevada Highway Department. I ended up buying it from a guy who picked it up at auction in Reno.

From there, it’s been a long-term build—something I’ve been tinkering with and improving for decades, not just thrown together overnight.

Under the hood sits a 351 Cleveland out of a 1970 Cougar XR7. I rebuilt it about 16,000 miles ago, same with the C6 transmission—it’s got about 16k on it as well. It runs strong and does exactly what it’s supposed to.

This thing didn’t just get a quick refresh—I took it all the way down. Body off the frame, sandblasted everything, and went through it right. Swapped in different running gear and installed ’85 Jeep Grand Wagoneer differentials with locking hubs, so it’s got a solid, capable 4x4 setup.

Cooling and reliability are handled with an aluminum radiator and electric fan, and the whole truck’s been completely rewired using an EZ Wire kit. It’s also got an electric fuel pump and dual fuel cells, with a switch on the dash so you can swap between tanks.

It is also equipped with an Edelbrock 600 carburetor, Edelbrock intake manifold, and electronic distributor for strong, reliable performance. It also features power steering and power brakes for improved drivability. The firewall has been cleaned up with components removed for a streamlined, custom look under the hood.

Inside, it’s a mix of comfort and custom work. It’s got Cadillac Escalade power bucket seats up front and a bench in the rear, along with power windows and locks. I added Ford Racing gauges to keep everything in check. Before the upholstery went in, I lined it with Kilmat sound deadening to quiet it down. It also features pound Bear Claw door latches and a backup camera.

For comfort, it’s running Vintage Air with a rear unit to keep the whole cabin cool. The front-end tilts forward electronically, which makes working on it a breeze. Even the details are dialed in—the side mirrors are custom pieces that came off a GMC Suburban.

Please note, it was too tall to store in the garage, so it has been stored outside. The last photos show the vehicle's current condition where the paint shows slight fading, there are some minor defects present, and some minor rust.

Bottom line, this isn’t just some old panel—it’s a 40+ year evolution. Built right, thought out over time, and packed with upgrades that make it drive, perform, and stand out.
