Owner’s Notes
“Here is your chance to own a rust-free 1980 Jeep CJ-5 that you can truly drive anywhere—no computers, no frills, just a classic Jeep that’s easy to work on and fun to drive. This CJ-5 wears a Vietnam-era USAF military theme that shows very well and always draws compliments—no rubber duckies here. It has a current state inspection and registration and a clean title. The odometer shows just under 49,000 miles, which I believe to be original based on the engine numbers and the overall condition (photos of the numbers are available so you can judge for yourself). I purchased the Jeep about ten years ago with roughly 39,000 miles and have driven it mostly for special events and in-town errands. It has always been garage-kept. Mechanically, the Jeep is solid and dependable. The 258 CID inline-6 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission runs strong and shifts smoothly in both 2WD and 4WD. It has power steering and power brakes, no death wobble, and tracks straight and true at highway speeds, easily cruising at 70 MPH. It starts easily, runs reliably, and has never been wrecked. I’ve never taken it off-road. It features cold aftermarket A/C (important here in Texas), four almost-new tires plus a new spare, a working factory AM radio, and a working horn. The Jeep currently runs a distributor and point ignition for improved performance, but an aftermarket electronic ignition (still new in the box) is included if you prefer that setup. A spare alternator is also included, as the alternator was upgraded when the A/C was installed. The minor flaws are honest and minimal: a small crease at the bottom of the passenger-side front fender and a small tear in the soft top. The original steering wheel is included if you’d like to return it to stock—or if you have a slimmer build than I do. This CJ-5 is not a trailer queen or a concours show car, but it has excellent bones, zero rust issues, and no headaches. It’s a very nice 45-year-old vehicle that has brought me a lot of enjoyment, and I’m confident it will do the same for its next owner.”
